iPhone App Reviews: Introduction

So as most of you will know back in July I got myself a brand new black iPhone 3GS 16gb. The iPhone is simply amazing, I could never go back to another phone. AppsThe iPhone’s level of intuitivness as well as a great combination of hardware and software makes it the ultimate phone. The iPhone really is more than a phone, it acts as a computer as all my normal tasks on the computer can be accomplished on this phone.

A huge motivating factor in my purchasing of an iPhone was apps. In my opinion this is what sets it apart from any other phone. Thousands of apps exist on the App Store which can accomplish pretty much all the tasks you would want to do. the iPhone is truely the phone that has changed all others.

As shown that is my first page of apps. You can find my full pages here.

Apps are great, I love them. They are carefully made, beautiful and easy to use. Where else to show how much I love them than my blog!

So over the next wee while I’ll be reviewing post by post my top ten favourite iPhone apps! (Bearing in mind I do have exams on next week.)

So I’m sure you’re wondering what are my favourite apps? Well here they are in the order I’ll be reviewing them in:

  1. Tweetie
  2. Facebook
  3. Doodle Jump
  4. LogMeIn
  5. NotifyMe
  6. MobileRSS
  7. SBSettings
  8. CameraBag
  9. Wordpress
  10. Dropbox

As each post is written and published a link will appear here as well on the relevant app I have reviewed.

Review number one: Tweetie will be published later this week!

Any other favourite apps you want reviewed? Post a comment!

New Zealand first to get iPhone 3G

As mentioned on Engadget and my Twitter status New Zealand is going to be the first place in the world to get the very first 3G iPhone and I’m going to be the very first person in the whole world to have an iPhone (hopefully and maybe). Vodafone is set to open there stores at 12:01am on July 11 in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. I think this is great as New Zealand can finally be the first to get something (remember we never got the first iPhone).

For me the iPhone solves all my problems I have ever had with a phone. I agree with Apple favourite line “it just works”. As it does precisely that. It seems really expensive, especially for the average teenager but really it’s not. If you think about it lets say the iPhone 3G is $500 NZD on contract (Vodafone hasn’t said anything about price and the iPhone won’t be for prepay, will be covered in another blog post). In New Zealand dollars the average mobile phone is $200, the average camera $200, average iPod $350. That already adds up to $750 dollars. Plus the iPhone comes with awesome other features such as GPS, awesome mobile internet, 3G, email that actually works and much more. So it really is worth the money you pay for it.

For me it would be great only having to take one gadget around, my pockets are so full already with a phone, iPod and camera. It would be awesome to have it all in one and that’s exactly what it does.

Now Apple, you’ve done well with the iPhone, and you gave a retail store to Sydney, so when is Auckland’s turn?

3G iPhone: What would you like to see?

World Wide Developers Conference is coming this Monday the 9 of June and the long anticipated arrival of the 3G iPhone has circled around with many rumours. Firstly Vodafone announced a month ago that they would sell the iPhone in ten different countries this year including New Zealand. This is very exciting, we havn’t ever seen the light of the iPhone if it isn’t hacked. Everyone is hoping that his will be the 3G iPhone. Why would’nt it be? After all is Vodafone so backward that they wouldnt give us the new version? I hope not?

As you may know any first Generation product isnt going to be perfect and this was the case with the iPhone. The iPhone only had a 2 Megapixel camera with no flash or video recording qualities, no GPS, no 3G etc.

The features I would like to see with the new iPhone would be:

  • At least a 4 Megapixel Camera with flash
  • Video recording qualities
  • Flash built in with Safari
  • Third Generation technology (3G)
  • GPS functionality
  • Radio

What would you like to see in the next iPhone?
